Thigh Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes excess fat from the thigh region. To contour and structure the thighs, liposuction selectively targets stubborn fat around the thighs that will not budge with exercise and diet alone. This simple and effective procedure permanently removes fat cells from hard-to-reach areas.

ToggleAll About Thigh Liposuction
Liposuction is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the world. (1) It is a surgical technique meant to remove unnecessary subcutaneous fat. When fat collects just beneath the skin, it is not used for energy like deeper adipose tissue. There are many different approaches to this surgery, including ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL). VASER liposuction utilises targeted ultrasound to break up fat pockets, increasing the safety of the procedure.
What Does VASER Liposuction Entail?
Early liposuction procedures were performed “dry,” meaning there was no liquid infiltration. Most modern liposuction procedures add a saline solution containing lignocaine and epinephrine to control discomfort, trauma, and bleeding. This is called tumescent fluid. VASER is just one type of fat removal that implements this liquid. UAL uses sound vibration energy projected through a handpiece at a certain frequency that ruptures a specific type of tissue. That is how the process targets fat and not the important tissue that surrounds it. (2)
After infiltration, Dr. Hamlet inserts the VASER ultrasonic probe underneath the skin very carefully. The energy then gently breaks up the surrounding fat cells without demanding excess work from the surgeon. After breaking up the tissue, a different cannula removes the fat with suction. This process makes it simple to use on smaller, less accessible areas of the body like the inner thighs. The precise nature of the VASER instruments also allows Dr. Hamlet to accurately target certain areas without interacting or removing fat from their surroundings.

Benefits of Thigh Liposuction
The many benefits of this procedure include:
- Permanent fat removal
- Concentrated leg contouring
- Improved overall body proportions
- Slimmer inner thighs
- Contoured outer thighs
- Accentuated muscles
- Moderately invasive
- Safe and effective
- Can be used in other areas in same procedure
Thigh liposuction is a commonly-performed procedure that helps reduce fat in areas unresponsive to weight loss attempts. VASER’s ultrasonic probe also provides slight skin tightening, and the procedure is easily combinable to further improve results. It is quick and simple, and Dr. Hamlet is incredibly selective when targeting fat to keep you safe.
Ideal Candidates
Thigh liposuction is intended for those with extra fat surrounding their thighs that they cannot get rid of. You are in good overall health and within a healthy weight. Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery, and should not be used as one. To achieve the best results, you must quit smoking tobacco and nicotine products at least 3 weeks before your procedure. These substances negatively affect your ability to heal properly. Patients should also avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin, as these can cause excessive bleeding during the surgery.
Personal Consultation with Dr. Hamlet
We provide private consultations for every surgical patient. Dr. Hamlet will inquire about your medical history and cosmetic desires during your appointment. He will get to know your situation intimately to create a personalised procedure plan that works for you.
This private consultation will also be your chance to ask questions and inquire about adding other procedures to your plan. Dr. Hamlet will be happy to address your concerns and make sure you are completely prepared for your thigh liposuction.
Simple Preparation
To properly prepare, please ask a friend or family member to transport you to and from our surgical centre. In the weeks leading up to your appointment, refrain from tobacco and nicotine use and alcohol consumption. These substances negatively impact bleeding and the recovery process. If you currently take blood-thinning medications, including aspirin and ibuprofen, please avoid these as well. Increased bleeding can impact both your surgery and results. Dr. Hamlet may recommend altering your daily medications if necessary. Please avoid dietary supplements like vitamin E. Make sure to stay hydrated before and after your procedure to support a healthy recovery.
Thigh Liposuction Procedure Steps
Dr. Hamlet starts the surgery by administering the appropriate anaesthetic. This could be either general or local anaesthesia with sedation depending on patient preferences. Then he infiltrates the thighs with a tumescent solution, effectively adding another type of anaesthetic. He makes small incisions near the treatment area and inserts long cannulas to administer the liquid. Next, he inserts VASER’s ultrasonic probe just beneath the skin. This works to break up fat without damaging important internal structures. Once the fat is emulsified, Dr. Hamlet uses different cannulas to suction out the fat cells and infiltration fluid. The procedure typically takes 1 to 2 hours depending on the patient’s circumstances.
Recovery
Most patients take 2 to 3 days off of work after thigh liposuction. The treatment area bruises and swells for around 3 weeks. If prescribed medication, please take this as directed. Expect soreness and fatigue. The amount of fat removed during liposuction determines the length of recovery. If Dr. Hamlet removes substantial fat, then recovery can take longer. Please take short and gentle walks to increase blood flow and keep the body active. Thigh liposuction patients typically reach full recovery after 3 to 4 weeks.
Long-Lasting Results
You may notice early results right away. These only get better with time as your swelling dissipates. As you heal, your thighs will look more natural and sculpted. The fat cells removed during liposuction do not return, meaning your results are long-lasting. To preserve them, implement a healthy diet and exercise routine when fully recovered. Always wear sun protection when in direct sunlight and you will enjoy your new thigh contour for many years.
Corresponding & Complementary Procedures
VASER Smooth
To tackle unpleasant cellulite on the thighs, Dr. Hamlet performs VASER Smooth. This procedure breaks up the fat cells that create dimpled skin with VASER liposuction technology, effectively erasing cellulite. It restructures the skin using Dr. Hamlet’s signature instrument the Hamlet Sweeper. He uses this to break through the bands underneath the skin that cause dimpling. This type of liposuction removes both fat and cellulite in one go and is a helpful addition to thigh liposuction for the right patient.
Fat Transfer
Using the fat removed during liposuction, fat transfer is a commonly combined surgery. The surgeon cleans the fat through centrifugation and reinjects it into other areas to add volume. This often increases breast size or augments the buttocks. Fat transfer can also add volume to the face.

FAQ
Does thigh liposuction cause discomfort?
Every patient’s pain tolerance is different, but Dr. Hamlet’s procedure methods are gentle. The tumescent solution helps alleviate procedural discomfort and the anaesthesia used is typically long-lasting. If you opt for general anaesthesia, you will be asleep during the procedure. Over-the-counter or prescription medication curbs most discomfort.
Can I get liposuction on my knees?
Yes. VASER liposuction can remove fat from the knee area. This may be combined with thigh liposuction for the right patient.
Will I have scars after thigh liposuction?
Liposuction incisions are very small. They typically do not require stitches, and commonly heal within the first few days of recovery. Any scarring is minimal and easily concealed by your natural contours.
Can I receive liposuction of other areas of my body in the same procedure?
To make recovery easier, liposuction is typically performed in one or two areas at a time. During your consultation with Dr. Hamlet, he will tell you if treatment in multiple areas is preferable.
How can I maintain my results after liposuction?
Patients can maintain the long-term effects of thigh liposuction through a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise and a balanced diet. By maintaining a stable body weight and following post-operative care instructions, patients can enjoy long-lasting results and sustain the improved contours achieved through thigh liposuction.
