Offered at our convenient location in London

Formerly known as J-Plasma, Renuvion is a minimally-invasive skin tightening procedure that uses helium plasma to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. About Renuvion for Skin Tightening

Renuvion is a treatment that utilises the power of plasma energy to achieve remarkable skin tightening and body contouring results, all through a minimally invasive approach. It uses a unique combination of radiofrequency (RF) and helium plasma to tighten the skin from within. This powerful device infiltrates the dermal layers with precise and targeted heat, with instantaneous cooling from the helium gas, producing thermal effects that cause environmental changes to the skin’s surface from the inside out. Treatment Areas

  • Face
  • Jawline
  • Neck
  • Chin
  • Abdomen
  • Back and Bra Line
  • Breasts
  • Arms
  • Thighs
  • Lower Legs
  • Knees

The Science of Helium Plasma

To create helium plasma, Renuvion devices use inert helium gas. When this gas comes in contact with RF energy, its electrodes become energised and combine with helium to create plasma. The generates two different types of heat:

  • Heat from the plasma beam itself (ionisation and neutralisation of helium atoms)
  • Joule heating (tissue heating due to tissue resistance)

This process allows the tissue to heat instantly as the device passes through the treatment area, reaching a temperature of around 85 degrees Celsius for 0.04 seconds, inducing the tissue to reach optimal collagen contraction. The difference between Renuvion and other RF treatments is that this specific process allows the surrounding skin to stay cool, which leads to a rapid reduction of heat in the affected tissues. (2)

Facial Skin Rejuvenation

Renuvion technology is commonly used for wrinkle and fine line reduction on the face. The device works the same way, releasing helium gas and RF at the same time to create plasma and thermal heating. To treat the face, the Renuvion device can be applied in pulsed, painted, or fractionated patterns to produce minimally-invasive skin rejuvenation

Dr. Hamlet makes three small incisions beneath the chin and each ear that act as ports for the Renuvion device. If liposuction is required, it is performed before the skin tightening begins. After numbing the area, the device is inserted and meticulously positioned underneath the skin and activated. As the plasma beams come in contact with tissues, new collagen is created and the skin tightens. (1)

Benefits of Renuvion

  • Effective Skin Tightening
  • Collagen Regeneration
  • Improved Skin Texture
  • Wrinkle Reduction
  • Minimally Invasive Treatment
  • Long-Lasting Results

Renuvion is a great procedure to reduce a patient’s need for surgery to tighten the skin. The skin’s elasticity reduces as we age, sometimes leaving us with looseness in unflattering areas.

If used alone, Renuvion can create subtle changes in contour and muscle definition by addressing redundant skin and folds on the body. When used in conjunction with liposuction, this procedure can effectively reduce skin folds and fine lines, as well as improving contouring results. Compared to other skin tightening techniques, Renuvion is a one-time treatment that both immediately tightens skin and increases collagen production that can last for several months after the procedure.

Am I a Good Candidate for Renuvion Treatment?

Ideal candidates for Renuvion treatment are those with mild to moderate skin laxity in any one the treatment areas mentioned. Patients must be in good health with no serious underlying health issues that might impact healing. Though Renuvion is minimally-invasive, the procedure still requires the use of local anaesthetic or, in some cases, general anaesthetic. It is also required that you have realistic expectations about what this treatment can achieve.

For patients with severe loose skin, Renuvion cannot provide the results that body contouring surgery can. If you have redundant and loose skin because of significant weight loss, you may be a better candidate for a tummy tuck or a facelift procedure.

Personal Consultation

This appointment is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you may have about the treatment, whether you may need to combine it with other procedures, and what to expect on the day of your surgery. You will receive a medical examination to assess your desired treatment areas and we will gather information about your medical history.

If Renuvion is right for you, a member of our staff will assist you with scheduling your surgery date.

Preparation

To properly prepare for your Renuvion treatment, please avoid the following:

  • Anti-Inflammatory medications (e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen)
  • Anti-aging products (e.g. retinol)
  • Certain herbal supplements
  • Vitamin E (fish oil, garlic)
  • Nicotine and tobacco products
  • Alcohol

Before the day of your procedure, find a trusted friend or loved one available to transport you to and from our facility. They should also preferably stay with you overnight following your treatment as you will be sore and still experiencing the residual effects of anaesthetic. Renuvion is an outpatient procedure, but you will be monitored for a period of time after surgery to make sure you are ready to go home.

Renuvion Procedure

Dr. Hamlet starts this procedure by meticulously marking the areas being treated and injecting local anaesthetic. After the area is properly numbed, liposuction is performed first if it is part of your procedure plan. He then inserts the Renuvion probe under the skin through small incisions. The device administers thermal heat in measured increments and slowly works to tighten tissue. Depending on the patient and total treatment area, the procedure usually takes 1 to 2 hours to complete.

Recovery

For standalone Renuvion treatment, patients often take 5 to 7 days off of work to recover. If performed in conjunction with liposuction, this may be extended to up to 10 days. Since the procedure is subdermal, your healing will happen starting from the inside. Expect some swelling and bruising as your treatment areas heal. You may need a compression garment to wear depending on the area of treatment.

We will provide more information about the recovery process during your initial consultation. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call our London office at 0207 127-4377.

Results

Since the helium plasma begins to work instantly to tighten the skin, you will begin to see your results right after your procedure. As your swelling subsides, the skin will continue to tighten and your contouring will improve. Renuvion also promotes continued collagen production, so these results will be ongoing and long-lasting.

In order to keep your newly shaped physique, you should maintain a healthy lifestyle by incorporating exercise and a balanced diet into your everyday routine. Protect your skin with high-quality sunscreen to prolong its radiance.

Liposuction: A Common Corresponding Procedure

Dr. Hamlet regularly performs VASER liposuction and Renuvion together to achieve optimal results for his patients. In order to create preferable contour and definition for certain patients with excess pockets of fat, liposuction removes fat cells before skin tightening with Renuvion.

Depending on the size and location of the treatment area, general anaesthetic or local anaesthetic with sedation can be used to keep the patient comfortable throughout the surgery. After proper infiltration, the area is then treated with the VASER cannula to emulsify the fat into an easily-removable liquid.

FAQ

Does Renuvion leave scars?

The small incisions used during Renuvion procedures may leave scarring, but they usually fade tremendously in the following months until they are barely noticeable.

Is liposuction plus Renuvion better than liposuction alone?

Depending on your specific needs and skin laxity, you may not need to combine the two operations. That being said, there are many benefits to receiving these procedures at the same time, including maximum skin tightening, contouring, and overall body sculpting when used in conjunction.
