About

Juvéderm Volbella XC utilizes advanced patented Vycross technology that cross-links high molecular-weight hyaluronic acid with low molecular-weight hyaluronic acid. This creates higher viscosity which has great lift capability and produces longer-lasting results. [1] The gel is easily injected and easily molded to compliment the natural contours of the lips. This specially formulated hyaluronic acid is designed for natural-looking results that last! [2]

About the Aging Lip

Collagen and elastin are essential components of a youthful appearance. With age, the natural loss of elastin and collagen creates volume loss and skin laxity. Elastin is responsible for skin’s ability to “snap back,” while collagen is responsible for structural support. The ideal lips have been described as having fullness with a defined border. [3] Unfortunately, lips are not exempt from the aforementioned effects of aging. The less volume the lips have and the more they droop, the more it can age the face.

Hyaluronic acid, found naturally in our bodies, has many responsibilities. Hyaluronic acid regulates the growth of cells, increases cell hydration, supports tissue structures, and promotes collagen retention. All of these acts contribute to the benefits of reintroducing hyaluronic acid into the lips. [4] Results of lip enhancement with Juvéderm Volbella XC are immediate due to the gel, and the hyaluronic acid with Vycross technology creates long-lasting results on a cellular level. After Juvéderm Volbella XC lip enhancement treatment, lips will be plump, supple, hydrated, and compliment your overall appearance.

Benefits

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2020, over 2.6 million women and men got hyaluronic acid-based injectable dermal fillers. [5] One reason for this incredible stat is the fact that hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers have essentially become the golden standard in injectable dermal filler treatments. The moldability of hyaluronic acid is much better in comparison to other dermal filler materials like collagen-based fillers. Also, since hyaluronic acid is naturally found within our bodies, Juvéderm Volbella XC as well as other products in the Juvéderm family do not require a skin test. [3]

Candidates

Candidates for lip enhancement with dermal fillers are women and men 18 years and older who would like to enhance the shape or increase the volume of their lips. These candidates should understand that dermal filler treatments are temporary</strong>; routine treatments will provide long-lasting results. Those who are allergic to lidocaine should not receive treatment since lidocaine is already incorporated in the Juvéderm Volbella XC gel. Additionally, patients with active cold sores or skin rashes should wait to receive injections until these have healed.

Personal Consultation

Patients will discuss their cosmetic desires with an injection specialist during a personal consultation at Dr. Grant Hamlet in London. It is at this time that a physical examination will also be performed to ensure that Juvéderm Volbella XC treatment for lip enhancement is the appropriate treatment. Based on this information combined with your medical history, if it is the treatment that will meet your cosmetic goals, an individualized treatment plan will be created. Everybody’s anatomy, proportions, and desires are different, so it is only right that we provide custom treatments. Please inquire about treatment on the same day as your consultation and we will see if we can accommodate you.

Preparation

Taking blood thinning medications like aspirin and drinking alcohol is not recommended before treatment to help avoid the potential of post-treatment bruising or bleeding. Anti-aging products, glycolic acids, and retinoids or similar topical products should be avoided a couple of days before injections.

Procedure

Juvéderm Volbella XC treatment for lip enhancement is quick, but it does take an expert injector like those of Dr. Grant Hamlet to make sure patients receive the best results possible. It is not just an injection that can be performed by anyone; one has to make sure the appropriate number of units are injected into the appropriate locations to provide each patient with results that will complement their overall facial features.

Lidocaine is included in Juvéderm Volbella XC for added comfort. The injector specialist will inject the gel slowly to make sure not to overfill the lips. With each injection, the specialist will artfully sculpt the shape of the lips until the desired results are achieved.

Recovery

Dermal fillers do not require downtime</strong>; daily routine can be resumed immediately after injection. Rigorous activity should however be avoided for the rest of the day. This will be discussed during your consultation. Minor bruising or swelling may be present right after treatment but these effects quickly resolve on their own.

Results

A study reported that over 96% of the subjects who received Juvéderm Volbella XC lip injections were satisfied with the treatment results!

Results are seen immediately but it can take a couple of weeks for the final results to be enjoyed. Juvéderm Volbella XC lasts up to one year, with some patients enjoying their lip augmentation longer. The length of results varies on each patient’s metabolizing rate and how quickly it will absorb the hyaluronic acid. To maintain your beautiful results, routine treatments are possible, and encouraged. If for any reason you wish to no longer have lip fillers, they can easily be dissolved with an additional injection.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Dr. Grant Hamlet also offers Juvéderm Voluma XC and Sculptra for temporary enhancement of other areas of the face. Juvéderm Voluma XC is FDA-approved for chin augmentation and cheek augmentation. It generally lasts between one to two years. Again, Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid-based filler so results will last until your body naturally absorbs it. Sculptra is a poly-l-lactic acid that smooths smile lines, laugh lines, and chin wrinkles. Some off-label uses include the hands and cheeks. Sculptra smooths the treatment areas with the initial injection of the poly-l-lactic gel, but the results are long-lasting because it also stimulates the production of collagen. With several treatments, collagen creation allows you to maintain the results through your body’s natural efforts.

FAQ

Does Juvéderm offer other types of dermal fillers?

Juvéderm is a family of hyaluronic acid fillers that treat different cosmetic concerns. At Dr. Grant Hamlet, we offer Juvéderm Volbella XC for lip enhancement and Juvéderm Voluma XC for chin and cheek augmentation. Both provide immediate volumizing results with results being elongated by collagen production stimulated by the reintroduction of hyaluronic acid.

Are Juvéderm Volbella XC results permanent?

No, Juvéderm Volbella XC provides temporary lip enhancement. On average, a single treatment will provide results for up to one year, with some patients experiencing longer-lasting results. It is possible to have long-lasting results with routine injections. We are happy to discuss this with you during a consultation.

Are dermal fillers and Botox the same?

No, dermal fillers and Botox are not the same. They are both wrinkle-smoothing injectable treatments, but the methods by which each accomplishes this are different. Also, dermal fillers can be used to augment and plump certain areas like the lips; Botox cannot add volume. Dermal fillers fill in deep wrinkles caused by repetitive movement of underlying muscles responsible for facial expressions. Botox is used to stop these deep wrinkles from being created by temporarily paralyzing the expression-creating muscles. Botox can smooth fine lines and wrinkles that appear when you make expressions, but it cannot treat wrinkles that are visible when you are not making expressions.
