Arm Liposuction

Offered at our convenient location in London

Arm liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that utilises liposuction to remove excess fat from the arms. Excess fat in the arms can be a source of self-consciousness for many individuals, regardless of their overall body weight. Even with regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle, stubborn pockets of fat may persist in the upper arms, making them appear disproportionate or flabby. Arm liposuction serves as an effective solution to eliminate this unwanted arm fat and sculpt the arms into a more desirable aesthetic.

At Dr. Grant Hamlet’s private practice in London’s Highgate Private Hospital, he offers first-class arm liposuction procedures. He is an experienced liposuction specialist who prides himself on delivering life-changing results for his patients. For more information, call 0207 127 4377 or fill out this form.

About Arm Liposuction

Sometimes, pockets of fat accumulate in the arms, causing them to look bloated and unbecoming. People with this problem are often self-conscious about their arms. They restrict the clothes that they wear and the activities they participate in for fear of being perceived negatively. Unfortunately, these pockets of fat can be incredibly hard to get rid of, as they are often resistant to diet and exercise. An arm liposuction procedure by Dr. Hamlet can help to address the problem and provide you with the slim and trim arms that you want.

Liposuction directly removes pockets of excess fat cells from the body. It involves a surgeon making small incisions in order to access the targeted pockets of fat. Through these incisions, they use a thin tube-like tool called a cannula to break up the fat in order to prepare it for removal. Once the fat has been broken up, they use suction through the tube of the cannula to remove it from the body.

What is VASER Liposuction?

While traditional liposuction methods involve simply breaking up pockets of fat using the brute force of the cannula, there are some advanced methods that improve upon this process. Dr. Hamlet is a specialist in one of these methods: VASER liposuction. Standing for Vibration of Amplified Sound Energy at Resonance, VASER is a popular type of “ultrasonic liposuction” that harnesses ultrasound energy

To perform VASER liposuction, Dr. Hamlet applies ultrasound energy to the fat cells, effectively liquifying them. This makes it comparatively easy to remove fat from the body. VASER simplifies fat removal, resulting in less swelling and discomfort during recovery, and it shortens the amount of time it takes to heal. It also makes it easier for Dr. Hamlet to precisely sculpt the contour of the arm during arm liposuction. VASER liposuction results in fewer complications than traditional liposuction. (1)

Who is a Candidate for Arm Liposuction?

An ideal candidate for Dr. Hamlet’s arm liposuction procedure will be ready to get rid of the stubborn fat on their upper arms once and for all. They will have already tried getting rid of it through diet and exercise, to no avail. If this sounds like you, arm liposuction might be the right choice.

Candidates for arm liposuction should be in good health. Surgery of any kind requires time and energy from the body and you need to be able to heal properly if you want to benefit from it. You should also have good skin laxity, otherwise your skin may sag after arm liposuction. This would occur if it loses a significant amount of underlying volume through the removal of fat cells and it is not able to reform itself tighter. In such cases, an arm lift with liposuction would be a better treatment to go with, which also removes excess skin in the treatment area.

Will Liposuction Help Me Lose Weight?

Liposuction is not a weight loss solution. (2) While it will make your arms slimmer, liposuction will not actually change your body in the same way that proper diet and exercise would. For this reason, you should be close to your target weight before you opt for arm liposuction. In this scenario, your excess fat will remain on your body because of its inability to burn off through diet and exercise, so you will know that liposuction is the right choice.

Preparation

Preparing for your arm liposuction procedure will help us provide optimal results and help you recover effectively. Once we confirm your appointment, we will give you personalised preparation instructions based on the information we gather at your personal consultation. These may include changes to the medications you take and specific activities to avoid.

As with any surgery, you should avoid blood-thinning substances like anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, aspirin, etc.) and certain herbal supplements. These substances can increase bleeding during surgery and cause complications. You should also avoid drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco for as long as you can before and after your surgery, as these substances can affect your ability to heal. Be sure to stay hydrated throughout your treatment process as well.

You will have some difficulty moving your arms due to the treatment location, so be sure to prepare your home for recovery by planning ahead and keeping everything you will need within reach. Lastly, don’t forget to arrange for a trusted friend or family member to give you a lift home after your surgery. If you can, have them look after you on the first night of your recovery.

Arm Liposuction Procedure

Dr. Hamlet typically performs arm liposuction on an outpatient basis, which means you will be able to leave our facilities and go home the same day as your procedure. When you arrive for your surgery, we will give you local or general anaesthesia to prevent discomfort, which will be discussed beforehand at your consultation. To begin, Dr. Hamlet will make small strategic incisions on your arm in order to access your excess fat. He will then treat the fat with the VASER technology, preparing it for removal. Using a cannula, he will remove the fat from your arm, taking care to sculpt an attractive contour. When he is finished, we will close up your incisions and take you to a recovery room. We will monitor your vitals as you recover from the anaesthesia, and when you are ready, you may go home.

Recovery

You can expect some bruising, swelling and redness in the arm area as you begin to recover. We can prescribe medication that can alleviate these symptoms. Liposuction requires some downtime for recovery, and you will likely have to take off from work in order to rest and relax. Most patients stay away from work for one or two weeks, depending on their speed of healing. Avoid physical activity, particularly moving your arms, for a week after your procedure. Do not participate in strenuous activity or exercise for six weeks, or until Dr. Hamlet approves.

We will give you detailed instructions to aid in your recovery. These will include how to take care of your incisions, things to watch out for and activities that can speed up healing. Following these instructions closely will help you recover quickly so that you can enjoy your results as soon as possible.

Results

You will be able to see immediate improvement in the appearance of your arms after your surgery. These results will continue to improve as your swelling goes down. You will be amazed by how much better your arms can look, and how having slimmer arms can improve your overall figure. Liposuction is a permanent treatment, as fat cells do not come back once they have been removed. However, the remaining fat cells can shrink and grow according to your lifestyle, so a balanced diet and regular exercise will be necessary to maintain your results. The results of the arm liposuction procedure vary from patient to patient, and it is normal to receive additional cosmetic treatment to bring you closer to your aesthetic goals.
