Otherwise known as an eyelid lift, a blepharoplasty is a facial rejuvenating procedure that removes excess skin and fat from your upper and lower eyelid to promote a younger, more awakened appearance. Bags do not just form under your eyes. They can form above them too. For many people, as they age, the skin above their eyes loosens and starts to droop. Sometimes it droops so much the excess skin impedes their vision.[1]
Excess skin and fat around the eyes can have many effects on a person’s appearance. Upper and lower eyelid bags can cause someone to appear older than their years, more tired or worn out than they naturally are, and even become a hazard to their safety if vision is impeded. Dr Grant Hamlet is thrilled to bring his skills and expertise to his clientele. If you live in London or one of its neighboring towns, you are invited to schedule a personal consultation. During your consultation, we can address the loose skin above or below your eyes, determining if you are a suitable candidate for a blepharoplasty procedure. Eyelifts in London
There’s a lot to see in London. However, you might not be able to see what this great city has to offer if you’re suffering from excess skin that impedes your vision. This is where blepharoplasty enters the stage
About Blepharoplasty
As we age, our skin can lose its elasticity, causing it to sag, wrinkle, and crease. These symptoms of ageing are due to the loss and weakening of our skin’s collagen fibres. With weak collagen fibres, our skin is unable to maintain its elasticity, moisture, and overall healthy, youthful appearance.[2] For some, this loose skin may be accompanied by excess fat perched above or below our eyes. For others, maybe their eyes are obstructed by folds of excess skin. With a blepharoplasty procedure, Dr Hamlet removes the excess skin and fat tissue from around your eyes through discreet incisions.
The Windows To The Soul
William Shakespeare wrote: “Beauty is bought by judgement of the eye.” And while in this scene of Love’s Labour’s Lost the line is used to insist that seeing is believing, the eyes are a crucial component of your facial aesthetic. When we are young, our eyes are bright, alert, and unfettered by loose skin. A blepharoplasty, with its subtle change, plays a vital role in restoring your face’s harmony and diminishing the signs of ageing. With a blepharoplasty, you can look forward to:
A Renewed Appearance
While loose skin and stubborn fat deposits around your eyes may not obstruct your vision, they might make you appear more tired and mature. To counteract this, Dr Hamlet recommends a blepharoplasty. By removing the troublesome tissue from around your eyes, you can acheive a more engaged, refreshed appearance.
Clearer Vision
For those whose excess tissue has ventured into their line of vision, a blepharoplasty is all but necessary to assure your safety while going about your daily life and the streets of London. When the skin loses enough elasticity, the tissue on the upper eyelid folds over the crease. As you age, this skin can increasingly overhang, eventually obstructing your vision.[1]
Candidates for a Blepharoplasty
When evaluating patients for a blepharoplasty, we realise that all bodies age differently, so there cannot be a set age for blepharoplasty. But, more definitive factors that make patients great candidates for blepharoplasty are people who:
- Have excess skin or fat on their upper or lower eyelids
- Wish to see long-lasting results
- Are concerned about how their hooded eyes affect their appearance
- Are worried about their well-being due to the excess skin hanging over their eyes
Please do not hesitate to schedule a personal consultation at the Hamlet Clinic. There, we can begin your journey to your brighter, younger appearance.
Personal Consultation
Dr Hamlet is proud to serve the greater London area from his Harley Street clinic. Dr Hamlet is a world-renowned cosmetic surgeon with extensive skills and expertise that have made him a coveted teacher for the future generation of plastic and cosmetic surgeons. Leading plastic surgeons and medical students from all over the world go to Dr Hamlet to learn about technical advancements in aesthetic surgery.
During your consultation, we will begin with a brief physical examination and a new patient intake interview. Then, we will inquire about your ideal appearance. A blepharoplasty is a complementary procedure to other surgical procedures like a facelift. By performing a blepharoplasty in conjunction with a facelift, your surgeon can erase deep wrinkles and lines in your facial appearance and restore volume to cheeks and under-eyes. Once we have noted all of your goals and expectations, you will be given a personalized treatment plan. Any questions or concerns you may have will be thoroughly addressed. Before concluding the consultation, we will give you a list of preparatory steps that you should adhere to between now and your surgery.
Preparation
To prepare for a blepharoplasty, we recommend you:
- Avoid any blood-thinning medications. These include aspirin, ibuprofen, and fish oil.
- Avoid smoking a few weeks before your surgery and the entire duration of your recovery. We ask this because nicotine constricts your blood vessels which hampers your body’s natural healing abilities.
- Designate a caregiver to drive you home after the surgery.
Procedure
Your condition may require either an upper or lower eyelid surgery, or both. It is important to understand what either treatment entails. If both are required, they will be performed in conjunction.
Upper Eyelid Lift
This specific type of blepharoplasty focuses exclusively on addressing the lax, sagging skin that rests above the eyes. Making a precise, concealed incision in the crease of the upper eyelid, a surgeon will strategically remove excess skin and fat tissue from the area. Once all the target tissue has been addressed and removed, they will carefully close the incision to minimize scarring. For most patients, the scars reside within the creases, so they are virtually invisible after your recovery process.
Lower Eyelid Lift
A lower eyelid lift rids your appearance of stubborn under-eye bags. As we age, our skin starts to sag, but the under-eye adipose pad remains suspended between our malar mound (cheek) and tear trough. So, as the skin loosens and the fat remains in place, the appearance of a bag starts to form. Over time, as the skin continues to sag, the under-eye area can also fill with fluid, furthering its puffy appearance. By making a careful incision around the creases of your lower eyelids, a surgeon then widens the opening and removes this excess tissue. Before suturing the incision, they ensure the area’s appearance is smooth and refreshed. Many patients who just undergo the lower eyelid lift say they look years younger after all the swelling has subsided.
Recovery & Results
After he has completed your procedure, your surgeon will cover the sutured incision with small plasters. For the next couple of days, your eyes will be swollen. To alleviate this inflammation, we recommend that you routinely place ice packs on the areas. Your sutures will be removed at your post-operative visit. We do recommend waiting a couple of weeks before returning to any strenuous activities.
Corresponding & Complementary Procedures
After experiencing the level and quality of care Dr Hamlet and his team are committed to, you might want to make him your go-to specialist for all your cosmetic needs. After your blepharoplasty, you might be interested in receiving additional facial rejuvenation procedures. To complement an eyelid lift, we also recommend:
Dermal Fillers
The weakening of our natural collagen fibres causes certain facial features to lose their volume. Dermal fillers aim to counteract that. With using naturally occurring chemicals like hyaluronic acid and poly-L-lactic acid, our suite of dermal fillers can restore volume and erase wrinkles from many areas of your facial appearance. From plumping your lips to erasing marionette lines and crow’s feet, dermal fillers can complement a blepharoplasty by bringing a balanced harmony to your complexion.
Cost
We will determine the cost of your blepharoplasty during your consultation. The price will depend on if both an upper and lower eyelid lift were performed and if any additional procedures were included.
