The Breast Implant Removal Procedure
Before your breast implant removal surgery, Dr. Hamlet may ask you to do the following:
- Stop smoking.
- Get a medical evaluation and lab testing.
- Cease taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory meds, herbal supplements, or other medications that have the potential to increase bleeding.
Every Tummy Tuck at Dr Grant Hamlet is tailored to your unique goals, skin quality, muscle tone, and body shape. Most procedures are performed under general anaesthesia, with local anaesthesia considered in suitable cases.
Your surgeon will make a low horizontal incision across the abdomen, designed to be hidden beneath clothing. The abdominal muscles are then tightened or repaired, and excess fat and skin are removed. For enhanced sculpting, VASER liposuction may be used for more precise fat reduction.
The remaining skin is carefully redraped for a flatter, firmer contour. In some cases, the belly button is repositioned. All incisions are closed with fine sutures to minimise scarring.
If your concerns are limited to the lower abdomen, a Mini Tummy Tuck may be recommended. This involves a smaller incision and focuses on removing tissue and tightening muscles below the belly button.
Recovery
Recovery from any procedure depends on the duration and extent of the surgery and the health of the patient. Be sure to ask Dr. Hamlet any questions regarding post-op procedures, dressings/bandages, stitches, medications, follow-up care, and when you can resume normal activities. Recovery time varies depending on the extent of your procedure. Most patients take 1–2 weeks off work and are encouraged to take short walks in the first week to support circulation. Otherwise, rest is essential during the early healing phase.
Bruising and swelling are common and will be managed with a compression garment, which also helps the body adapt to its new shape. If drains are used, your practitioner will explain how to care for them.
