Rhinoplasty – Nose Surgery

Refine the shape, balance, and function of your nose with rhinoplasty at Dr Grant Hamlet. This procedure enhances facial harmony while addressing both cosmetic concerns and breathing difficulties.

Introduction to Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job”, is a surgical procedure that reshapes the bone and cartilage of the nose to improve both appearance and function. Whether performed for cosmetic reasons or to correct structural issues, each procedure is carefully tailored to the patient’s individual anatomy and desired outcome.

Rhinoplasty can reduce the overall size of the nose, reshape the tip, smooth irregularities along the bridge, or straighten a deviated structure. It can also restore proper breathing and correct damage caused by injury, genetics, or previous surgery.

At Dr Grant Hamlet’s practice, rhinoplasty is approached with precision and artistry to create results that appear natural and bring harmony to the face. Most patients will need to take one to two weeks away from work or daily activities while they recover, but the long-term benefits, both aesthetic and functional, can last a lifetime.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

Choosing rhinoplasty with Dr Grant Hamlet offers several key benefits for both appearance and function.

Facial Harmony

Achieve improved balance by reshaping the nose to complement your overall facial structure and draw attention to your eyes.

Functional Improvement

Restore clear, comfortable breathing by correcting structural issues within the nose.

Boosted Confidence

Feel more comfortable and confident in your appearance with a nose that better reflects how you want to look.

Tailored Refinement

Adjust the shape, size, tip, or bridge of the nose to suit your unique features and aesthetic goals.

Good Candidates

Rhinoplasty may be a suitable option if you’re unhappy with the shape or size of your nose, or if breathing difficulties are affecting your quality of life. By refining nasal contours, this procedure can improve facial balance and draw attention to your eyes, while also restoring proper nasal function.

Ideal candidates are in good overall health, do not smoke (or are willing to stop smoking at least three weeks before surgery), and have realistic expectations about the outcomes. If you’ve had previous nose surgery and are dissatisfied with the results, you may be a candidate for revision rhinoplasty. In these cases, Dr Grant Hamlet will carefully assess the remaining nasal tissue and determine the safest and most effective approach.

Some patients may also benefit from a non-surgical rhinoplasty, which uses injectable fillers such as Juvederm to temporarily reshape the nose without surgery. While not permanent, this option can provide subtle improvements that last between six and eighteen months.

  • Any medical conditions or treatments or drug allergies.
  • Current medications, herbal supplements, vitamins, alcohol, tobacco, and drug use.
  • Previous surgeries.

During your personal consultation at Dr Grant Hamlet’s London clinic, the team is committed to making you feel comfortable and informed. Dr Hamlet will carefully assess your nose, listen to your concerns, and explore your goals—whether they are cosmetic, functional, or both. Together, you’ll review your medical history and discuss the most suitable approach to achieve natural-looking results. Every rhinoplasty is tailored to complement your unique features and support your overall wellbeing.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Before your breast implant removal surgery, Dr. Hamlet may ask you to do the following:

  • Stop smoking.
  • Get a medical evaluation and lab testing.
  • Cease taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory meds, herbal supplements, or other medications that have the potential to increase bleeding.

Rhinoplasty is carried out under general anaesthetic as a day-case procedure. Once you are fully sedated, Dr Grant Hamlet will make precise adjustments to the bone, cartilage, and soft tissue of the nose to achieve your desired shape and restore optimal function. The approach and level of correction required will depend entirely on your goals and individual anatomy.

Once reshaping is complete, the incisions are closed with dissolvable stitches. The nose is then dressed and supported with a splint to maintain its new structure during the early healing phase. Patients are monitored post-surgery and typically discharged on the same day.

Rhinoplasty Techniques

There are two main surgical techniques used in rhinoplasty: open and closed. The most appropriate method will be determined during your consultation, based on the complexity of the procedure and your nasal structure.

Closed Rhinoplasty

This technique involves making all incisions inside the nostrils, leaving no visible scarring. It is ideal for patients requiring moderate reshaping and allows for a shorter recovery period.

Open Rhinoplasty

With this method, a small incision is made across the columella (the strip of skin between the nostrils), allowing the skin to be gently lifted for full access to the nasal framework. Open rhinoplasty offers greater visibility and control, making it suitable for more complex cases or revision surgeries. Any resulting scars are minimal and well-concealed.

Recovery

Recovery from any procedure depends on the duration and extent of the surgery and the health of the patient. Be sure to ask Dr. Hamlet any questions regarding post-op procedures, dressings/bandages, stitches, medications, follow-up care, and when you can resume normal activities. He’ll be happy to make sure that you have all the information you need.

You will receive detailed instructions to help you recover as comfortably as possible following your rhinoplasty surgery. Patients will need to pick up any necessary medications before their surgery date. Do not take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen during your recovery. They will make it difficult for the blood to clot and can exacerbate post-procedure swelling.

Patients will not be able to drive themselves home following their procedure. Coordinate a ride with a friend or family member to make sure you get home safely. Patients will need to take one to two weeks off work to allow their incisions to heal.

You will need to wear a nose splint for the first week of your recovery. In some cases, it may take a few months for swelling in and around the nose to settle completely. Post-procedure bruising and swelling will improve over the weeks following the procedure.

Patients will be able to return to more strenuous exercise after three to four months.
