Introduction to Lower Body Lift

A Lower Body Lift, often referred to as a belt lipectomy or belt lift, is a comprehensive and transformative surgical procedure offered by Dr. Grant Hamlet in London. This extensive surgery is designed to address and correct the significant excess skin and tissue that often remains on the lower extremities – including the buttocks, thighs, and abdomen – typically following substantial weight loss, but also due to factors such as pregnancy or the natural ageing process. The primary purpose of a Lower Body Lift is to remove this loose, sagging skin, meticulously contouring the lower body to create a more proportionate, streamlined, and natural-looking figure. It represents a powerful solution for those seeking to redefine their silhouette and enhance their comfort and confidence after achieving a stable weight.

Good Candidates

Ideal candidates for a Lower Body Lift are individuals who have a significant amount of loose, sagging skin, typically following substantial weight loss of 50 pounds or more. It is crucial that you are at or near your long-term goal weight and have maintained a stable weight, as further fluctuations can negatively impact the procedure’s results. Suitable candidates must be in good overall physical and emotional health, hold realistic expectations for their body lift procedure, and be committed to maintaining a healthy diet and fitness regimen to ensure the longevity of their transformative results. Dr. Hamlet understands that while diet and exercise are effective for weight loss, they cannot tighten skin that has been overly stretched, making a Lower Body Lift an ideal solution for addressing this specific concern.

Your Consultation

Your consultation will be a wonderful way for you and Dr. Hamlet to get to know each other, and discuss your personal aesthetic goals. Dr Hamlet takes a customised approach to all aesthetic procedures.

Before your consultation, please be prepared to share the following:

  • Any medical conditions or treatments or drug allergies.
  • Current medications, herbal supplements, vitamins, alcohol, tobacco, and drug use.
  • Previous surgeries.
During your in-depth consultation, Dr. Hamlet will conduct a thorough physical examination to assess your areas of concern and discuss your overall health. This comprehensive assessment will enable him to determine whether a Lower Body Lift is the most suitable procedure to help you achieve your desired aesthetic goals, or if an alternative approach might better suit your individual needs. Should a Lower Body Lift be deemed appropriate, you will be meticulously guided through every aspect, including all pre-procedure preparation, the intricate details of your surgery, and a clear understanding of what to expect during your recovery journey. Dr. Hamlet truly understands the profound significance this transformative surgery holds for his patients and is dedicated to ensuring you feel confident and comfortable with every step of this experience.

The Lower Body Lift Procedure

Before your surgery, Dr. Hamlet may ask you to do the following:

  • Stop smoking. Smoking has been directly linked to the development of complications with this surgery.[1]
  • Get a medical evaluation and lab testing.
  • Cease taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory meds, herbal supplements, or other medications that have the potential to increase bleeding.

Before anaesthesia is administered, your body will be meticulously marked to identify the precise curves and contours that Dr. Hamlet will sculpt. Known also as belt lifts or belt lipectomies, a Lower Body Lift encompasses a series of extensive surgical procedures designed to comprehensively recontour the lower portions of the body. This procedure involves a series of strategic incisions, most notably a circumferential incision that encircles the torso like a belt, allowing access to the thighs, buttocks, and midsection. Excess skin is then carefully removed. To lift and tighten the remaining skin on the waist, hips, and buttocks, a technique called undermining is employed. This involves separating the skin from underlying connective tissue, allowing it to be stretched upwards to eliminate bulging and achieve a tauter contour. Given that a Lower Body Lift addresses multiple areas simultaneously, this complex procedure may occasionally require more than one surgical session. Patients typically remain in hospital for one or two nights following their surgery.

Recovery

Recovery from any procedure depends on the duration and extent of the surgery and the health of the patient. Be sure to ask Dr. Hamlet any questions regarding post-op procedures, dressings/bandages, stitches, medications, follow-up care, and when you can resume normal activities. He’ll be happy to make sure that you have all the information you need.

Following your Lower Body Lift surgery, bandages, dressings, and compression garments will be carefully applied to your treated areas to support healing. Small, thin drainage tubes may also be temporarily inserted under the skin to help remove any excess fluid produced during the initial healing process. Dr. Hamlet will provide comprehensive instructions to guide your recovery and will schedule regular follow-up appointments to meticulously monitor your progress. You should plan to take at least two weeks off work and restrict regular, non-strenuous activity for four to six weeks. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least six to eight weeks, or until you are explicitly cleared by Dr. Hamlet. While some swelling and bruising will be present for a few weeks, any discomfort can be effectively managed with prescribed pain medication.

Results

While initial results of a Lower Body Lift are immediate, the final outcome may take up to one or two years to fully emerge as the body completely heals and any residual swelling subsides. Provided a stable weight is maintained and a regular exercise regimen is followed, the transformative results of a Lower Body Lift can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Research studies have also consistently shown that patients who underwent a Lower Body Lift experienced significantly increased long-term feelings of attractiveness and self-esteem. They reported a marked reduction in the discomfort associated with excess skin, leading to feelings of greater happiness, enhanced attractiveness, and notable self-confidence. Ultimately, the procedure demonstrably enhances their overall well-being, with benefits often enduring for many years post-surgery. [2]

FAQs

What’s the Difference Between a Lower Body Lift and a Tummy Tuck?

A Lower Body Lift offers a comprehensive approach to body contouring, addressing loose and hanging skin across the abdomen, flanks, buttocks, and thighs. In contrast, a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) focuses solely on treating the front of the abdomen.

Pricing

The cost of your Lower Body Lift procedure is highly individualised, as it is precisely determined by the extent of treatment required and the specific results you desire. Due to Dr. Grant Hamlet’s personalised approach to all procedures, and because each Lower Body Lift is meticulously customised to your unique body, the final price will naturally vary between patients.
