The Breast Augmentation Procedure
Before your breast augmentation surgery, Dr. Hamlet may ask you to do the following:
- Stop smoking.

- Cease taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory meds, herbal supplements, or other medications that have the potential to increase bleeding.
Before beginning the breast augmentation procedure, your surgeon will mark the incision locations on the breast to ensure accuracy throughout the breast augmentation procedure. This phase delineates the true anatomical artists from surgeons who just perform a procedure. Dr. Grant Hamlet takes the necessary time to accurately mark up patients based on their unique anatomy and not just apply a standard template. The time spent to carefully mark up patients shows in the phenomenal results he can achieve.
Next, our certified anesthesiologist will administer the general anaesthesia so patients remain comfortable during the procedure. Dr. Grant Hamlet surgeon then makes the incisions for the insertion and placement of the implant.
Breast Augmentation Techniques
Based on Dr. Hamlet’s comprehensive examination and your personal consultation, your breast augmentation procedure will be precisely tailored to give you your desired outcome.
Breast Implant Placement
Your surgeon will create pockets within the breasts for optimal placement and position of the implant. The implant will either be placed in front of or behind the muscle. For the insertion of the implants, we will either fill the saline implant once the shell is inside the breast pocket or a pre-filled silicone implant will be inserted. Once the implants have been inserted and positioned to the desired aesthetic, he will close the incisions using thin sutures and provide you with a surgical bra.
Recovery
Recovery from any procedure depends on the duration and extent of the surgery and the health of the patient. Be sure to ask Dr. Hamlet any questions regarding post-op procedures, dressings/bandages, stitches, medications, follow-up care, and when you can resume normal activities. He’ll be happy to make sure that you have all the information you need.
Once the breast augmentation procedure is complete, patients are taken to our comfortable recovery area where they will be monitored for a duration of time before being released. Our caring staff will provide the patient with recovery instructions. All patients are advised to follow to ensure optimal healing and maximize results.
Dr Hamlet recommends that his postoperative patients walk a brief amount after their surgery to improve circulation and reduce the risk of clotting. The compression garment should be continuously worn throughout the recovery stage to minimize the amount of swelling and bruising and speed up the healing process.
During recovery, we advise all patients to pause their daily activities for the first few days after the procedure. You can then gradually return to light activities after the first few days. More strenuous activities, such as lifting and exercising, should be avoided for at least 3-4 weeks following the surgery. If any questions arise during this time, our medical staff is available to assist in any way possible.

FAQs
Will breast augmentation lift my breasts?
Breast augmentation does not inherently lift the breasts. Breast lifts are a separate procedure and require different techniques. If patients are interested in also lifting their breasts to a higher position, a breast lift can be included. Lifts can be performed at the same time as breast enlargement so make sure to mention this to Dr Hamlet during your consultation if you want to learn more about a combined procedure.
Should I get breast implants or a fat transfer?
When looking to enhance the breasts, there are different procedures that patients can choose from. Enlarging the breasts can be done in one of two ways: through the use of implants or by utilizing one’s own fat. Breast implants are the most popular method for increasing breast size. Implants have a wide range of shapes and sizes to tailor each procedure to the patient’s exact desires.
What is breast fat transfer?
Breast fat transfer is the more natural breast augmentation method. This procedure requires no use of synthetic materials but instead utilizes the patient’s excess fat. The unwanted fat will be extracted from one region of the body, typically using VASER liposuction. Then, the fat graft will be purified and injected into the breasts. With this procedure, the breasts can be enlarged by one to two cup sizes at most. It is not ideal for patients who are looking to achieve a significant increase in bust size.
There is no one procedure that is better than the other; like all aesthetic enhancements, the best choice depends on the goals of the patient.
